Diganta Bharati and his wife Bhaswati accused a member of Chandmari Bihu committee of insulting him on stage after inviting him for a felicitation and then requesting him to sing a song or two for the audience
Eminent singer and music composer Diganta Bharati and his wife Bhaswati have accused Chandmari Bihu Committee of insulting the singer, and claiming that one of the members of Pub Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan, organizers of the widely respected Chandmari Bihu, insulted him for allegedly taking to stage wearing a jeans trouser.
The incident took place late Wednesday night.
What happened at Chandmari Bihu Function?
According to allegations levelled by Diganta Bharati and his wife Bhaswati, a member of the Bihu committee allegedly snatched the microphone from the eminent singer and music composer, for allegedly taking to the stage in a jeans trouser, after committee members invited him to the state to honour and felicitate him although it was his wife and not Diganta Bharati who was scheduled to have performed there last night.
Diganta Bharati alleged that after the felicitation was over, committee members requested him to sing a song or two for the crowd that had assembled in many thousands for the cultural evening.
Bharati said although he was not scheduled to perform at Chandmari, he agreed to honour the committee members’ request.
It was at this point when he was on the stage when a member of the Bihu committee who, Diganta Bharati and his wife Bhaswati alleged was drunk, came up to the stage and snatched the microphone from him, reportedly for taking to the stage in casual outfit.
A video available with News Live shows a heated altercation breaking out between Bharati and his wife with other committee members and they could be seen demanding an apology from the accused member of the committee for insulting the singer before thousands of people.

“Why was he invited to the stage? Why was he insulted before thousands of people? It was pre-planned and why wearing a jeans trouser is such a big issue when he was not scheduled to perform here. Other people were also wearing casual trousers. We want an apology from the person who was also drunk,” Bhaswati Bharati was heard telling other members of Pub Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan after the incident.
