Although the excise duty on petrol and diesel has been hiked by Rs 2, the Petroleum Ministry has stated that there will not be any increase in retail prices
GUWAHATI, April 7: The Centre Monday hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre each, an official order issued by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, stated.
While excise duty on petrol was increased to Rs 13 per litre, that on diesel has been hiked to Rs 10 for every litre, the order said.
Amid apprehensions about a corresponding increase in fuel prices after the increase in excise duty, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, however, has dispelled apprehensions and the possibility of increase in prices saying that there will not be any increase in retail prices.
“PSU Oil Marketing Companies have informed that there will be no increase in retail prices of #Petrol and #Diesel, subsequent to the increase effected in Excise Duty Rates today,” the ministry stated in a tweet on ‘X’, formerly Twitter.
