Manipur: Security forces arrest five militants in separate operations, seize arms and ammunition

GUWAHATI, March 26: Security forces arrested five militants in three separate operations in Manipur while recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition in another operation.

Manipur Police arrested two active cadres of UNLF (Koireng faction), identified as Thongam Ronaldo Singh (26) of Lilong Arapti Mayai Leikai of Imphal East district, and Khuraijam Micheal Singh (28) of Lilong Arapti Maning Leikai, Imphal East, on Tuesday.

The arrested militants were involved in extortion activities including extortion from trucks loaded with goods in Imphal and Bishnupur.

Three keys of Tata trucks, two challans of trucks, a four-wheeler along with key and Smart Card and two mobile phones were recovered from their possession.

In the second operation, security forces on Tuesday arrested two active cadres of KCP(PWG).

The arrested militants were identified as Wairakpam Jagatchandra Singh alias Theko (31) of Thangtek Teramakhong, Nambol and Pebam Romen Singh alias Naopung (28) of Thangtek Teramakhong, Nambol from Thangtek Terakhong under Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district.

They were involved in extortion activities and had served monetary demand to a shop, a doctor, an oil pump and a private school in Imphal West and Nambol.

Two mobile phones were also seized from their possession.

Manipur Police, in the third operation, arrested an active member of SOREPA, who was later identified as Tayenjam Sanatomba Singh (43) of Chongtham Kona Mayai Leikai in Imphal West district. He was arrested from Kongba near Standard College from Kongba near Standard College under Irilbung Police Station.

The arrested militant had served monetary demands and threats to various government officials. Two mobile handsets and a sum of Rs 1,010 were seized from his possession.

Meanwhile, the BSF and Manipur Police, in a joint operation, seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Imphal East district.
