GUWAHATI, Feb 21: At a time when over 50 crore devotees who visited the Maha Kumbh 2025 are receiving praise and adulation, a man from Jharkhand’s Ramgarh is facing criticism, apparently after he allegedly locked his ailing 65-year-old mother inside their home and travelled to Prayagraj with his wife and children.
Reports said Akhilesh Kumar, an employee of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), locked his mother Sanju Devi inside his quarter while he, accompanied by his wife, their children and his in-laws, went to Prayagraj to have a hold dip.
Reports said the 65-year-old ailing woman survived on flattened rice (chira) since Monday.
The incident came to light after neighbours heard the woman crying, apparently out of hunger, following which they intervened and also informed the police.
The woman’s son, however, rejected allegations of locking his mother without adequate food and said that he had arranged for her food and other provisions. But eyewitnesses and police, who later rescued the woman and admitted her to the CCL Hospital, said the son was lying as no provisions was seen stored inside the house for the ailing woman.
