GUWAHATI, Dec 25: President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying tributes to former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 100th birth anniversary.
Floral tributes were paid to the former Prime Minister at his samadhi while his birth anniversary is also being observed throughout the country as Good Governance Day, highlighting his contributions to the nation.
Prime Minister Modi, who penned an article on Atal Bihari Vajpayee, said the former Prime Minister stands tall as a statesman, who continues to inspire countless people.
Prime Minister Modi said the nation will always be grateful to him for being the architect of India’s transition into the 21st century.
He said that coming from humble roots, Vajpayee realized the struggles of the common citizen and the transformative power of effective governance.
Prime Minister Modi appealed to the people to rededicate themselves to realising ideals and fulfilling his vision for India.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma also paid his tributes to former Prime Minister Vajpayee terming his contributions to the country “unparalleled” while recalling his “special love and affection towards Assam and North East”.
