GUWAHATI, Dec 3: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has initiated the process of repalcing the existing contrator with a new one so as to speed up construction work of the Jorhat-Majuli bridge. The decision was taken at a crucial meeting held at the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in New Delhi yesterday.
The Assam Chief Minister’s Office (Assam CMO), while issuing an update on yesterday’s meeting held with all the stakeholders involved in construction of the bridge, stated that “aspects regarding slow progress of work were discussed threadbare” and that it was decided to replace the existing contractor with a new one.
“The process to identify a new contractor will begin on a priority basis,” Assam CMO stated on social media.
Not only will the existing contractor be replaced, “the performance guarantee of the current/outgoing contractor will be forfeited given agreed timelines were not met,” the update further mentioned.
