J&K: 4 terrorists killed in Kulgam district, hid in ‘Bunker’ with entry from fake cupboard

PUBLISHED:

In a significant operation, four out of six terrorists killed in twin encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district were found hiding in a bunker concealed inside a cupboard in the Chinigam Frisal area. Officials suspect local residents may have sheltered the terrorists and are investigating this angle.

A video circulating on social media purportedly shows security personnel dismantling a cupboard inside a house, revealing the hidden bunker. All the terrorists killed by security forces were affiliated with the Hizbul Mujahideen, a militant outfit linked to Pakistan. Among the deceased was a local commander of the group.

The encounters, which began on July 6, also claimed the lives of two army soldiers, including an elite para commando. “The bodies of two terrorists were recovered from the Modergam encounter site, while four bodies were recovered from the Chinigam site on Sunday,” officials reported.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police RR Swain hailed the operation as a major achievement. “Neutralizing such a significant number of terrorists is a milestone in strengthening the security environment. This success is meaningful both substantively and in terms of messaging,” Swain stated.

He added that the success of these operations indicates progress towards eliminating terrorism in the region, highlighting the role of human intelligence and the involvement of local people in these efforts.
