Polling began on a brisk note in many polling stations in four parliamentary constituencies where election is being held in the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls in Assam, on Tuesday.
Despite overcast conditions, long queues were witnessed in the assembly segments inhabited by tribals and minorities in lower and West Assam districts where polling is being held.
Polling commenced at 7 am in Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri and Kokrajhar constituencies.
Even as polling started at 7 am, in districts like Goalpara, voters started arriving at the polling stations from 5 am in the morning.
IMD had issued ‘yellow warning’ for the Assam districts where polls were due on Tuesday. Heavy rains lashed many parts of these districts in last two days.
About 81.49 lakh voters are registered to vote across four constituencies,
Altogether 41,00,544 are males, 40,48,436 are females and 111 third gender voters will exercise their franchise in the phase 3 elections.
With more than 26 lakh voters, Dhubri Lok Sabha seat has the highest number of registered voters in Assam.
