Guwahati: Assam Police arrested a madrasa teacher on Thursday from Gobindopur area in Goalpara district for his alleged links with the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
The arrested suspected Jihadi has been identified as Abdus Sobahan.
On the other hand, another madrasa teacher having links with the band outfit has also been detained from Jogighopa in Bongaigaon district.
Police are interrogating both the jihadis.
The ABT is a banned terror outfit based out of neighbouring Bangladesh with “affiliation” to the Al Qaida in the Indian sub-continent (AQIS). Bangladesh Thebanned the ABT in 2015 and its offshoot Ansar al-Islam in 2017.
As per the information accessed by Assam police, the Bangladeshi terrorists linked with AQIS/ABT had recruited many people in the state and indoctrinated many others.
Out of six Bangladeshi terrorists linked with AQIS/ABT, the Assam police have arrested one while the rest five are still absconding.
Goalpara police had earlier arrested two Imams with links to the Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from the lower Assam district. The arrested Imams are Abdus Subhan, Imam of Tinkunia Shantipur Mosque under Mornoi police station and Jalaluddin Sheikh, Imam of Tilapara Natun Mosque under Matia police station in Goalpara district.
Two of the six Bangladeshi terrorists had stayed in the Char areas of Goalpara district for the last 2-3 years.
