New Delhi: All police stations in the country will now have to be equipped with CCTV cameras. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued guidelines to all States and Union Territories in this regard. CCTV cameras will also be installed in the offices of all central investigation agencies. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai in a written reply informed the Lok Sabha about it.

The state governments have been advised by the Supreme Court of India to include the requirement of installing CCTV cameras in each and every police station in their proposals for the year 2021-22, said Rai.

It is to be mentioned that the Supreme Court of India through an order on 2 December, 2020 gave direction to States and Union Territories to install CCTV cameras in all police stations and offices of central investigation agencies.

The minister informed that the Supreme Court directed the agencies to complete the implementation within a period of six months from the date of allocation of budgets.
