Assam Congress clueless of who will next move to BJP

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: The Assam Congress is experiencing a lot of turmoil within party ranks. The recent statement of Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass that 5 seats will go for by-elections in six months has increased the suspense and anxiety within the opposition party.  As of now, four seats can be named that will go for the by-polls but the fifth seat and the incumbent is unknown.

There has been a lot of internal prediction and assumption within the party on which Congress MLA will next switch over to the saffron brigade.

Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia said that he had no information about which two MLAs from Barak Valley and Upper Assam are going to join the BJP.

According to party sources, a meeting has been called by the Congress party on June 24 to discuss all the matters and the course of action for the coming days.

However, contrary to opposition leader Saikia’s statement, a Congress source said that the party leadership wants to interact with each MLA to prevent them from moving to the BJP.

Meanwhile, in another jolt, former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee secretary, Prabir Kalita resigned from the party on Tuesday. The resignation letter sent to Congress President Sonia Gandhi accused state congress president Ripun Bora and vice president Rockbul Hussain of running the party in an undemocratic manner. It also mentioned that there was an open revolt inside the party last year. Kalita resigned from the post citing that there was no future of the Congress party in Assam led by Ripun Bora and Rockybul Hussain.
