Doctors across the state demand justice for Dr. Senapati

Guwahati:  Reacting to the brutal assault on a junior doctor in a Covid Care Centre at Hojai in Assam, senior doctors and resident doctors across the state have been staging protest and are demanding justice for the junior doctor. 

Doctors at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital(GMCH) staged a protest demanding an inquiry into the incident. They also demanded safety for all the health workers. 

The Junior Doctors’ Association of the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) also boycotted all essential services and diagnostic services of the hospital in protests against the brutal assault on a junior doctor in a Covid Care Centre at Hojai in Assam on Monday. 

The junior doctors, accompanied by several senior doctors, carrying placards and wearing black badges, staged a protest in front of the casualty ward of the JMCH. 

In Bokakhat, doctors and health workers have started their protests wearing black badges on duty today. As per reports, the general OPD of the hospital has already been closed as a sign of protest over the incident.

The IMA Assam State Branch has also condemned the barbaric assault on Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati at one of the Covid Care Centres in Hojai District. 

On Tuesday, Dr Seuj Kr Senapati who got posting at Fultali Hospital in Lanka of Hojai district was assaulted by a group of Covid attendants while he was on his Covid Duty.

Dr Senapati, seriously injured, was immediately shifted to another hospital in Nagaon.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “I am personally monitoring this investigation and I promise that all the culprits will be swiftly brought to justice.” 

The police in Assam’s Hojai district has swung into action arresting 24 persons in connection with the brutal assault on an on-duty doctor. The arrested persons also include a woman, who was seen in the video of the assault on the doctor that went viral on social media.
