GUWAHATI: The Assam Police sub-inspector recruitment scam has brought out many skeletons from the closet. Assam Police investigation has revealed that the high and mighty from the police and political parties from Assam are involved in this scam.

The main accused is former Assam Police DIG Prasanta Kumar Dutta popularly known as PK Dutta who is on the run since Wednesday afternoon. Of the many properties PK Dutta is said to be the owner of five hotels in Guwahati itself.

Under the strict order of Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal the CID and the anti corruption and vigilance cell has been sweeping the properties of former cop PK Dutta. The police team has so far recovered many incriminating documents, bank details and 8 kilos of gold worth Rs. 3.5 crore from Dutta’s residence at Hengrabari, Guwahati.

The investigation is led by Assam Police ADGP Law and Order GP Singh and names of youth leaders from Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have come to the fore among many.

Of now, all the fingers are pointed towards PK Dutta who is said to be the mastermind of this Assam Police Sub-Inspector recruitment scam. Dutta was one of the key players who played a major role during the anti-ULFA operations in the 90s that saw a lot of bloodshed between the ULFA and SULFA members.

The scam came to light after the question paper got leaked as the exam was underway across Assam on 20th September. The exams were halted immediately that led to a lot of discontentment among the candidates. A total of 597 posts for the unarmed branch of Assam Police were to be filled through this exam. The Sarbananda Sonowal led BJP government in Assam came under a lot of public pressure to nab the culprits and the CM ordered immediate action.
