30 Assam girls promised nursing jobs, lands in Delhi’s red light area

PUBLISHED:

Are human trafficking rackets operating unabated in Assam? After reports of teenage girls going missing from the state earlier this month, another big case of suspected human trafficking of over 30 girls came to light from Silchar in Barak Valley of Assam.

The entire matter came to light after 19 of the over 30 girls managed to escape from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and return home.

As per the allegations, a Silchar-based private company named Valuer Fabtax lured over 30 educated girls from Barak valley on the pretext of giving them appointment as nurses in renowned hospitals in Delhi and Haryana.

But to their utter shock, on February 15, after being taken to Delhi, the girls were allegedly kept at a hostel in a red light area in Kapashera, Delhi.

Although 19 of them managed to escape, the whereabouts of the other girls is still not known.

One of the girls who escaped said, “19 of us have returned. We don’t about the rest of the girls. In Silchar Ashram Road there is a centre. We underwent 6 months course there out of which 4 months were based on theory classes. In the other 2 months were asked to do practical like administering injections, saline in the block hospitals. After completion of our 6 months’ course, we were taken to Delhi, we were promised jobs there. We were assured full safety and security but when we actually arrived there, everything was different to what was said. The hostel in which we were kept was located in a red light area. From there we were shifted to another place. 30 of us went there, but half of us were kept in Haryana and the rest were kept in Ghaziabad. However, we were told here that our job and accommodation will be in Delhi, but we were kept too far from Delhi. Later we found that the hostel where we were kept was not safe at all. We suspected that we will be sold off.”

In another incident, Assam Police with the help of Railway Police rescued two women from the Bongaigaon railway station, who were supposed to be trafficked outside Assam.

One accused person identified as Jahiruddin has been arrested, while another accused, Rahim is still absconding.

Recently two minor girls who had gone missing from Mariani in Jorhat district of Assam last week were rescued in Bihar.

Prior to that, two school girls who had gone missing from Guwahati’s Noonmati area on Valentine’s Day were rescued safely from near Durga Raas temple in Tihu in Nalbari district.

One of the victim’s father said that the duo was lured by people in the name of jobs in Hyderabad with a contract of 5 years.
