16-member ULFA delegation leaves for Delhi to sign peace pact on Dec 29

A 16-member delegation of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) today left for New Delhi to take part in the signing of the tripartite peace agreement on December 29.

The leaders of the 16 member team include– ULFA president Arabinda Rajkhowa, Foreign Secretary Sasadhar Choudhury, ULFA Deputy Commander-in-Chief Raju BaruahPranjit Saikia, and Pradip Hazarika among others.

The ULFA will sign a historic peace agreement with the Centre and the Assam Government in New Delhi at 5 pm on December 29, ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia told Northeast Live.

The tripartite deal will be signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Chetia along with other ULFA leaders met senior officials of the Union Home Ministry yesterday to finalize the date for sigining of the agreement.

Moreover, another round of discussion will be held today on the content of the agreement.

It may be mentioned here that in 2011, ULFA submitted a 12-point charter of demands to the government which includes constitutional and political arrangements and reforms, protection of the identity and material resources of the local indigenous population of Assam.
