In a historic development, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJYA) can now avail free treatments in 121 private hospitals in the State. The PMJAY will likely to reduce the financial burden of poor and vulnerable groups arising out of catastrophic hospital episodes and ensure their access to quality health service.

Announcing the news, the health minister further informed that beneficiaries can visit the 121 private hospitals for treatment of 1350 procedures from Monday (Oct 15). He also informed that these 1350 procedures can be availed in 25 specialties.
All families listed in the SECC-2011 database as per defined criteria will be covered under the PMJAY and around 1394 packages covering surgery, medical and day care treatments, along with medicine and diagnostics can avail in private hospitals in the PMJAY schemes.

Meanwhile, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also informed that Assam Health department has already provided free medical care access to more than 500 people in Assam under the Ayushman Bharat programme.
