104 Assam students head for Guwahati

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: About 104 students belonging to Assam, studying in various academic institutions across Gujarat, left for Guwahati on Sunday in three specially-arranged buses. Three of the students belong to NID Ahmedabad while one studies at NID campus in Gandhinagar.

They were picked up from various parts of Gujarat and brought to Sanand on Sunday evening after talks between Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal. They are likely to reach their destination by Wednesday.

“The 40-day lockdown prevented me from visiting my native place. Then it was extended till May 17. I and some of my friends stayed in the city as paying guests and somehow managed. But we would feel safer in our home state and hence we are on the bus,” said Dipyaman Barman, who studies Animation Film Design course at NID. The students will have to follow the instructions of the Assam government in either being quarantined for 14 days in a government facility or at home, upon reaching Guwahati.
