Yuletide spirit sweeps Assam, people pray for peace on Christmas

GUWAHATI, Dec 25: Christmas is being celebrated with pomp and gaiety across Assam as people gathered in large numbers at churches on Christmas Eve for the midnight mass. As the all-pervasive Yuletide spirit sweeps Assam and other parts of the globe, people prayed for peace and amity and for the strengthening of brotherhood among various communities.

Churches, and other religious centres have been decorated with stars, candles, Christmas trees, bells, colourful lights as people from all walks of life attended the midnight mass by singing carols and offered prayers at Churches across the state.

Adding more joy to the festivities, restaurants and shopping malls in Guwahati have been painted in yuletide.

Meanwhile, President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in wishing people on Christmas

“Merry Christmas to all fellow citizens and especially to our Christian brothers and sisters in India and abroad. This is a day to renew our committment to values of compassion, love, fraternity. May Jesus Christ bless us all with happiness and joy.”President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted.

His teachings inspire millions across the world,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also wished people of the State on Christmas.
