GUWAHATI, Dec 26: In an incident that has sent shockwaves across the capital city and across the State, a young woman waiting for a bike taxi at Naharani Path in Guwahati’s Dispur Lastgate locality was stabbed by a youth for apparently turning down his marriage proposal.
The young woman was pronounced dead by doctors at GMCH.
The victim, identified as Mousumi Gogoi, hailing from Tinkhong in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, was waiting for a bike-taxi to leave for office when she was attacked by the youth, identified as Bhupen Das, who happens to be a cab driver by profession.
Although the injured woman, who was bleeding profusely as a result of sharp injuries suffered in her stomach, neck and hands, was rushed to GMCH, she was declared dead by doctors.
Meanwhile, the attacker is learnt to have attempted suicide after fatally attacking the victim.
Police sources said Mousumi had filed a complaint against Bhupen Das at Pan Bazaar Women Police Station on the basis of which a case was registered against him.
