Air India Express Pilot Dies of Cardiac Arrest
Young Air India Express Pilot Dies of Cardiac Arrest: In a tragic incident, a 28-year-old Air India Express pilot, Captain Armaan, passed away due to a cardiac arrest shortly after operating a flight from Srinagar to Delhi on April 9, 2025. The young pilot, who had recently married, began feeling unwell after landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport. He vomited inside the cockpit and later collapsed at the airline’s dispatch office. Despite immediate medical attention, he was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
An Air India Express spokesperson expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “We deeply regret the loss of a valued colleague due to a medical condition. Our thoughts are with the family during this time of profound grief. We are extending all possible assistance to them as we all cope with this tremendous loss.”
This unfortunate event has reignited discussions about pilot health and work conditions. In February, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) proposed a phased plan to introduce stricter limits on pilots’ flight hours to minimize fatigue. The proposal includes increasing pilots’ weekly rest from 36 to 48 hours starting July 1, 2025, and reducing night flying hours from November 1, 2025.
The aviation community mourns the loss of Captain Armaan and extends heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.
