Would-be bride killed in road mishap at Banderdewa

Mridusmita Hazarika would have tied the knot with her fiancé on the 10th of October. However, fate had something stored for her. She was pillion riding with her cousin brother, and was returning home after distributing invitation cards among her friends and relatives when they were mowed down by a speeding trailer at Banderdewa in Lakhimpur district of Assam.

Her cousin died on the spot as he was crushed under the trailer. Mridusmita, who suffered serious injuries, was rushed to Guwahati for better treatment but succumbed to her injuries on the way.

Incidentally, Mridusmita was in a conversation with her fiancé when the trailer hit them.

Meanwhile, there seems to be no end to road mishaps in Assam with the killer highways taking a huge toll in recent days.

A cyclist was mowed down by a speeding truck at Lanka.

On the other hand, at least 9 persons — including 6 women and 2 minor girls — were injured after they were knocked down by a speeding Swift Dzire near Kasomari Ghat in Guwahati yesterday (Sep 18) night. They were rushed to the MMC Hospital where they were attended to by doctors. The injured people had come for idol immersion of Lord Ganesha when the accident took place.

The driver of the speeding car fled after the accident.
