Women’s Cricket: Australia beat India by 5 wickets in first ODI, lead 3-match series 1-0

GUWAHATI, Dec 5: The Australian women’s cricket team hammered the Indian eves by five wickets in the first one-dayer of the three-match ODI series at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane today.

Australian medium-pacer Megan Schutt took her maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs as the visitors, who opted to bat first, were bowled out for 100 in 34.2 overs.

Jemimah Rodrigues top scored with 23 while Harleen Deol made 19 and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur added 17 runs to the team total.

For Australia, Kim Garth, Ash Gardner, Annabel Sutherland and Alana King picked up one wicket each.

In reply, Australia reached the target in 16.2 overs with opener Georgia Voll, on her ODI debut, making an unbeaten 42-ball 46 while Phoebe Litchfield added 35 in just 29 balls.

For India, Renuka Singh took 3 wickets while Priya Mishra picked up 2.

Schutt was named Player of the match.
