GUWAHATI, Jan 30: After the death of a businessmen from Assam’s Hailakandi district in the tragic stampede in Prayagraj, a woman devotee from Biswanath Chariali who went for the Maha Kumbh has been reported missing since yesterday (Jan 29) afternoon.

The woman named Manju Devi Agarwal had left for Prayagraj with her family members on Monday (Jan 27) and reached the holy town yesterday.

The entire family then went to the Ganga river banks to have a holy bath yesterday afternoon when the woman’s granddaughter first went missing.

The entire family began a search for the missing girl and were reunited with her but the woman, who was told to sit at a particular place near the river bank as others began a search for the missing girl, could not be found there when the others returned.

“My father and mother went to the Maha Kumbh along with my wife and children and my in-laws’ family. They reached Prayagraj yesterday and went to have a bath in the Ganga in the afternoon. My daughter then went missing following which other members of our family launched a frantic search to locate her,” the woman’s youngest son, who is in Biswanath Chariali, told News Live.

“However, my daughter rang me up and told me where she was, following which I contacted my wife and they were able to find my daughter. When my family members were searching for my daughter, they told my mother to sit at a particular place and to not move anywhere until they returned. But when they came back after reuniting with my daughter, they found out that my mother was not there,” he added, saying that she remains missing till now.

“The local administration has been informed and they have also joined in the search while also announcing her name in loudspeakers. Despite all efforts, we have failed in locating her,” the son further added, saying that his mother is diabetic and takes insulin regularly.

The worried family members have released two mobile numbers (+91-7637010291 and +91-9864062000), asking people to inform them if they have any information about the missing woman.
