In a shocking incident, a woman sustained critical injuries after she was attacked with a knife by a youth in Guwahati’s Survey locality in Beltola on Thursday evening.
As per reports, the youth stabbed the woman brutally for not accepting his love proposal.
The young woman who is currently admitted at a private nursing home in the city has been identified as Ankita Das Kashyap.
The attacker identified as Amit Bhowmik has been absconding after the attack.
Earlier on May 28, 2024 Ankita had lodged an FIR at Dispur police station, citing Bhowmik’s threats and persistent stalking and advances towards her.
But according to the victim’s mother the police didn’t take any prompt action against Bhowmik after their daughter lodged an FIR which ultimately led to this situation.
Speaking to the media, the victims mother said that Amit Bhowmik had been stalking her daughter for an a long period of time.
” Amit has been following my daughter for a long period now. We have lodged an FIR at Dispur police station, but the police has not taken and serious action. I am disappointed with the police’s response. They must promptly arrest Amit, given his threats against us. Ankita had no romantic involvement with Amit; she consistently rejected his advances. His attack on our flat yesterday is a direct result of her refusal. The responsibility also lies with our flat’s security, who allowed Amit entry despite our warnings and providing his photograph for identification'” said the victim’s mother.
The police are currently trying to track down Bhowmik and investigating the matter.
