Wild elephant create terror in Guwahati, 7 injured

PUBLISHED:

Man-elephant conflicts continue to be on the rise in Assam with frequent incidents of pachyderms straying into human settlements reported from various parts of the State. Let alone far-flung and interior pockets, wild elephants are now increasingly entering Guwahati.

Seven people, including a woman and a minor, were injured in Baghorbari locality of Guwahati after an elephant strayed into the area, probably from the Amchang reserve, early Friday and created havoc among the residents.

The elephant entered the compounds of several houses, and even vandalized some cars as it ran amok in the locality.

Most of the people were injured while trying to flee from their houses and not as a result of direct attack by the elephant.

The injured persons were admitted to the GNRC and GMC Hospitals.

Terrorized people accused Forest officials of not coming to their help despite repeated calls made to them.
