Widespread Rains, Thunderstorms Likely Over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya

Guwahati: A cyclonic circulation located in Rajasthan is expected to gradually become a blurred system and will be replaced with dry westerly winds. Accordingly, the monsoon trough that has moved down south to Rajasthan is expected to be back to normal position and rains across Punjab and Haryana to Mumbai are likely to subside for the next five days.

This monsoon break can extend up to the western part of Uttar Pradesh, but rain will continue over the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh and to the east.

In fact, models indicate an increase in rainfall across Northeast India, especially from Tuesday to Thursday. Therefore, the best falls for the next five days are expected across Sikkim, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, with over 250 mm in places as 5-day total.

As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy falls is likely to continue over Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar till August 24. Moreover, an increase in intensity is expected thereafter with isolated heavy falls over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya from August 24 to 27 and Bihar from August 25 to 27. Some places of Assam and Meghalaya may also experience isolated extremely heavy falls on August 25.

Meanwhile, rain in the southwest coastal areas will subside for a while but may intensify slightly toward Friday.

Lastly, the maximum temperatures are noted to be on the cooler side along northern plains for the next five days. Meanwhile, on the hotter side across the southwestern Peninsula. The overnight minimums are expected to be above normal across the Himalayan region for the next five days.
