GUWAHATI: The people in Jalukbari constituency have demanded Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to give up his decision not to contest assembly elections in 2021.
The voters threatened to boycott the elections if their favourite leader does not contest.
“We cannot accept the announcement honourable Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma made on Twitter. Today a public meeting requested Dr. Sarma to contest polls and serve the people of Jalukbari as well as Assam,” a local said.
“We are really aggrieved. The politics of Assam will be incomplete without him,” said another person.
Earlier, through a series of tweets, Assam minister and convenor of Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Dr. Sarma announced that he has no intention to contest assembly polls which are scheduled to be held next year.
