PUBLISHED:

The Assam Government will hike the daily wages of tea garden labourers with Dispur agreeing to a thirty-rupee-a-day hike in remuneration. This was announced by Assam Labour and Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes (WPTBC) minister Pallab Lochan Das in Guwahati today (July 7).

After the hike in remuneration, tea garden labourers in Brahmaputra Valley will now get Rs 167 while their counterparts in Barak Valley will get Rs 145 a day as wage.

The minister, meanwhile, said that a one-man committee has been formed to further look into wage discrepancies and that the government will take a final call on wages of tea garden labourers once the committee submits its report.

The Assam Government will also bring tea garden labourers and employees under the Prime Minister’s insurance scheme and will also foot the premiums on behalf of the workers and employees. Pallab Lochan Das also said the government will ensure that tea garden managements provide workers with provident fund.
