Guwahati: Voting is underway for the first phase of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election in Assam amid tight security arrangements .
Polling for 21 council constituencies in Baksa and Udalguri district under the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) began at 7-30 am on Monday and will end at 4-30 pm.
Voters queued up since early morning to cast their votes even before polling began at 7.30 am.
As many as 130 candidates are in fray in the first phase of BTC election and voting is taking place at 1,739 polling booths and a total of 13,59,020 voters will decide the fates of 130 candidates in ballot papers.
Out of 21 council constituencies, 11 constituencies fall in Udalguri district while 10 constituencies are in Baksa district.
The administration has ensured that strict Covid-19 precautions are in place in all polling booths.
According to the administration, around 17 per cent voter turnout has been recorded in first two hours polling for the first phase of BTC election.
