The voting for the Meghalaya and Nagaland Assembly elections began on Monday morning amidst heavy security measures, election officials said.
The voting in both states have begun at 7 am and will continue till 4 pm.
In Nagaland, Around 13.16 lakh voters including 6,55,144 women, voting in 2,291 polling stations, would decide the electoral fate of 183 candidates including four women nominees in Monday’s elections.
A voter turnout of 17.17 per cent was recorded in Nagaland till 9 am as the polling began amid tight security today, informed Election Commission of India. The polls would seal the electoral fates of 183 candidates across parties. According to the data given by the Election Commission of India, Chumoukedima was at 17.59 per cent, Dimapur was at 14.45 per cent, Kiphire was at 24.74 per cent, Kohima was at 20.12 per cent, Longleng was at 11.93 per cent, Mokokchung was at 17.18 per cent, Mon at 21.27 per cent, Noklak at 18.98 per cent, Peren at 15.91 per cent, Phek at 20.37 per cent, Pughoboto at 25.06 per cent, Shamator at 16.00 per cent, Tseminyu at 19.72 per cent, Tuensang 15.30 per cent, Wokha at 11.61 per cent, Zunheboto at 9.91 per cent.
In Meghalaya, Around 21.75 lakh electorates, including 10.92 lakh women, are eligible to exercise their franchise in Monday’s elections.
There are about 81,000 first-time voters in the state.
Meghalaya recorded 12.06 per cent voter turnout till 9 am in the ongoing polling for 59 assembly constituencies, the Election Commission informed. The polling started at 7 am and will continue till 4 pm. As per the ECI, the highest voter turnout was recorded at 17.82 percent in East Garo Hills.
The data shared by the Election Commission states, “East Jaintia Hills saw a voter turnout at 13.85 per cent, East Khasi Hills saw 14.29 per cent voter turnout, Eastern West Khasi Hills was at 16.18 per cent, North Garo Hills saw 9.83 per cent, Ri-Bhoi at 10.06 per cent, South Garo Hills was at 3.48 per cent, South West Garo Hills was 11.37 per cent, South West Khasi Hills 14.09 per cent, West Garo Hills at 6.70 per cent, West Jaintia Hills at 17.19 per cent and West Khasi Hills at 12.15 per cent.”
Votes to be polled in Nagaland on Monday would be counted on March 2 along with Meghalaya and Tripura.
