Veteran singer Pankaj Bordoloi passes away

GUWAHATI: Noted singer from Tezpur Pankaj Bordoloi passed away in the early Friday morning after prolonged illness. Bordoloi breathed his last at Times Hospital, Tezpur where he was being treated for cancer.

The well-known singer who played a remarkable role in preserving the songs of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and Bishu Prasad Rabha was born on December 24, 1960 at Rupajuli tea estate near Binduguri.

For his unique contributions in promoting Jyoti Sangeet and Rabha Sangeet in their purest forms, Bordoloi was conferred the Swabhab Shilpi Amulya Kakati Memorial Award in 2019 by by the Students-Artistes-Litterateur Welfare Trust of the All Guwahati Students’ Union (AGSU), the Guwahati wing of AASU.

Pankaj Borodoloi also performed with music maestro Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on several stages across the state.

Recently, he acted in Zubeen Garg’s blockbuster movie ‘Kanchanjangha’.

Bordoloi’s demise has been widely mourned in the cultural arena of the state.
