Uttarakhand avalanche: 47 workers rescued, search on for 8 others; PM Modi assures all-possible help

GUWAHATI, March 1: Forty-seven workers out of the 55 trapped after an avalanche hit a BRO camp in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Friday have been rescued, reports quoting authorities stated.

Rescue teams managed to evacuate 47 people while efforts are underway for the remaining eight.

The rescue operation began at 7.30 am and six injured workers were taken to the Army Hospital in Joshimath, the Indian Express reported.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dhami is overseeing the situation as army helicopters assisted evacuations. He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured all possible assistance from the Centre in rescuing the rest of the trapped workers were working to clear a stretch ahead of BRO operations for a road project between Mana village and Mana Pass.

Over 60 personnel from SDRF, NDRF, ITBP & BRO are still involved in the rescue operation as efforts are being made to rescue the eight people still trapped in the avalanche-hit area alive.
