GUWAHATI, Jan 28: At least five people were killed and more than 50 others injured after a bamboo platform put up for a religious event in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat collapsed under the weight of the people, reports stated.
The incident took place when the bamboo platform erected for devotees at the ‘Laddoo Mahotsav’ organized by the Jain community collapsed after devotees climbed the structure to offer laddoos.
The seriously injured are being treated in local hospitals while those with minor injuries have been administered first aid and sent home, Baghpat police chief Arpit Vijayvargiya was quoted as saying.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister expressed anguish over the incident and asked officials to speed up relief work.
