UPSC results out; Assam’s Mayur Hazarika bags 5th rank; at least 3 more from State also clear exam

GUWAHATI, May 23: Mayur Hazarika of Assam etched his name in golden letters by bagging the 5th position in the UPSC Final results that were declared today. Mayur, a Nodal Officer employed with NHM Assam, brought laurels to his family and the home state by bagging the fifth position in what is believed to be the toughest competitive examination in the country.

“It’s almost a surreal feeling. I had hoped to crack the UPSC examination but getting the fifth rank was beyond any stretch of my imagination. I am on top of the world,” Mayur told News Live.

“I did self-study since I was working while preparing for the UPSC. Although I did not take up any full-fledged coaching for the examination, I had enrolled for an online course,” Mayur added, as a steady stream of relatives, well-wishers and friends arrived at their home in Nagaon to congratulate him on his stupendous achievement.

Mayur, an MBBS graduate from Gauhati Medical College Hospital, had completed his school education from Sacred Heart and Don Bosco, Tezpur before passing his higher secondary from Ramanujan Junior College, Nagaon. Besides Mayur, at least three others from Assam — Md Idul Ahmed bagging the 298th rank, Nivedita Das grabbing the 848th rank while Manasjyoti Das, hailing from Namrup and currently based in Lakhimpur as an ACS officer, getting the 881st rank — have also cleared the prestigious competitive examination.
