While six persons have so far been arrested in Assam for their anti-India posts and comments on social media over the Pahalgam terror attack, CM Dr Sarma said there will be more arrests as part of their crackdown against such anti-nationals

Pahalgam terror attack: 6 arrested in Assam so far for anti-India rant on social media: Assam Police have so far arrested six persons, including AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, for posting anti-India remarks in social media after the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack, Chief MInister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in a post on ‘X’, formerly Twitter.

AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was arrested from his residence in Dhing yesterday over the highly offensive comments he made in a video where he linked the killings in Pahalgam and the 2018 Pulwama terror attacks in which over 40 brave BSF jawans were killed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

One person has been arrested from Hailakandi, two persons — including a student of Assam University — from Silchar, one from Morigaon district, and another person from Sivasagar have been arrested by Assam Police, Chief Minister Dr Sarma confirmed in his post while adding that there will be more arrests since the crackdown on anti-nationals is underway.

“Assam will not tolerate any individual who, directly or indirectly, supports or defends Pakistan in connection with the heinous attack in Pahalgam.

Further arrests are underway as part of our ongoing crackdown,” he wrote.

Cachar Police had arrested a student of Assam University, Silchar, for posting deregatory statements on social media regarding the senseless killings of Hindu tourists.

The student, identified as AK Bahauddin Choudhary, reportedly made controversial and highly communal and insensitive statements over the killings.

He was held from the university campus after an FIR was registered at the Assam University Police Outpost yesterday (April 24).

Another person named Mohammad Javed Mazumder has also been arrested from Silchar.

Morigaon Police, on the other hand, arrested a person named Majahar Miya, a Muslim cleric and a resident of Ward No. 4 of Moirabari town, for supporting the dastardly killings and writing “good job” in a socia media post. He was arrested after a case was lodged at Moirabari Police Station (Case No. 74/25 U/S 152/196/197(1)/113(3)/352/353 BNS 2023).

Mohammad Jabir Hussain, a media person working with a local newspaper published from Silchar, was arrested by Hailakandi Police after he made some objectionable and insensitive statements in social media linking the Pahalgam killings with the recent Waqf Amandment Act and blaming the central government and the Supreme Court for the mayhem in Pahalgam.

Sivsagar Police also arrested a person named Mohammad Sahil Ali for posting deradatory and anti-India statements on social media regarding the Pahalgam killings.

The arrests came after Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had on Thursday (April 24) cautioned people against making anti-India comments and said that Assam Police have been instructed to take strict action against anyone making offensive and insensitive statements.
