Jorhat Police arrested the 10 accused for assaulting the victim on Sunday night which led to his death today morning

Jorhat Police have arrested 10 youths for their alleged involvement in the fatal assault on a youth who chided them for creating nuisance at a Bihu function at Chandan Nagar locality of Jorhat on Sunday night.

The attackers, identified as Babu Ali, Pranab Gowala, Rohit Rajput, Ashwajit Baruah, Debojit Baruah, Bikash Chhetri, Abdul Noor, Abdur Rahim and Ramzan Khan, were arrested by Jorhat Police after a complaint was filed by the father of the victim at Lichubari Police Outpost.

The young man named Bedanga Bhushan Baruah died at Jorhat’s Mission Hospital today (April 22) following serious head injuries he suffered in the brutal assault, his father, a retired Government official, told News Live.

The incident had taken place on Sunday night when a bihu function was held at Chandan Nagar locality of the town with people in their thousands enjoying the cultural night.

Bedanga, also a member of the Bihu organizing committee, had to come out of the pandal after rowdy youths created a nuisance near the venue.

He scolded the youths and told them to either behave themselves or else leave the area.

Although the youths dispersed after the incident, they attacked Bedanga with sharp weapons when he was returning home after the Bihu function ended.

A CCTV video showed the rowdy youths assaulting Bedanga in the dead of the night.

Although he was rushed to JMCH and later shifted to Mission Hospital in a serious condition, he breathed his last today morning.
