Undertrial prisoner who escaped from Morigaon district jail nabbed in Andhra Pradesh

GUWAHATI, Nov 3: One of the five under-trial prisoners who had escaped from Morigaon District Jail on the night of Oct 11 has been nabbed in Andhra Pradesh.

Md. Jiyarul Islam (23), hailing from Missamari in Sonitpur district, was apprehended on Saturday evening at Sullurupeta Police Station area under Tirupati District in Andhra Pradesh.

He is presently detained at Sullurupeta Police Station.

A team of Morigaon Police led by SI Anupam Boruah of Morigaon Police Station has left for Andhra Pradesh to bring back the apprehended prisoner.

Out of the five under-trial prisoners, two have been arrested while two are still on the run..

On the other hand, the body of the fifth prisoner, Abdul Rashid, was recovered from a pond in Lahorighat on Oct 14.

Incidentally, the under-trial prisoners had escaped the prison by first breaking the rods of the barracks and then crossed the 50-foot jail wall with the help of blankets, lungis and bed sheets.

All five were booked under the POSCO Act in separate cases and were facing trial when they made the daring, Bollywood movie-like jailbreak.
