UK returnee found COVID-19 positive in Assam

GUWAHATI: A person who returned from United Kingdom (UK) has been found positive for COVID-19 in Assam.

However, it is yet to be ascertained whether the patient has been infected with the new variant of COVID-19 or not. The sample of the patient has been sent to National Institute of Virology in Pune for verification.

“Alert has been raised in India following the emergence of new variant of COVID. A person who has returned from Britain has been found positive in Assam. The sample of the patient has been sent to National Institute of Virology in Pune for verification,” said Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Sarma stated that there is no plan of further lockdown in the state. He also said that all the educational institutes including primary schools will reopen for regular classes from January 1.
