It was a festival-like atmosphere in Jorpukhuri locality of Uzan Bazaar in Guwahati after the Ugratara temple idol, stolen in November last year, was finally handed over to the temple management today (May 2). The idol of ‘Maa Tara’ was handed over to the temple management board by Guwahati Police after it was brought to the city from Golaghat last night.
Hymns, chants and sounds of cymbals rend the air as the idol of the Goddess, recovered by Golaghat Police from Nalbari onTuesday, was brought to the temple.
The centuries-old idol made from eight metals will be installed with the new idol made in Kolkata at a latter date. Incidentally, the new idol was scheduled to have been installed at the altar today (May 2) but the ceremony has been postponed after the recovery of the stolen idol.
