GUWAHATI, Dec 12: A brace from Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka along with a late goal from Kai Havertz secured all three points for Arsenal in their UEFA Champions League match against Monaco at The Emirates Stadium, London.
Arsenal began putting pressure on the French side right from the word go and it was Saka who broke the deadlock 10 minutes before half time.
Monaco started the second half with a more positive approach despite being a goal down. But the French side’s hopes of a comeback were thwarted ten minutes from full time as Saka netted his second of the match to put the Gunners 2-0 ahead while Havertz, coming off the bench, made it 3-0, scoring in the 87th minute.
Arsenal climbed to third in the Champions League table after the victory, and securing their hopes of progressing straight into the round of 16.
Elsewhere, a five-goal second half in Germany saw Barcelona earn a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund to move second in the points table.
