Two suspected ULFA (Independent) militants were reportedly killed while a police commando has been seriously injured as security forces stepped up operations against militants along the Assam-Arunachal border in Assam’s Tinsukia district. Fierce gun-battles have been reported between a joint Army and police team and suspected ULFA(I) and NSCN militants at Kujupathar, Konapathar and Khermethia areas along the Assam-Arunachal border in Tinsukia district Friday evening.

The encounter is said to be underway with security forces even paradropping troopers during the assault on militant camps in the densly forested area.
Sources further said that the police officer who has received bullet injuries is said to be in a critical condition.
There are also reports of two grenade blasts amid the heavy exchange of firearms. Senior Army and police officials have rushed to the area and are overviewing the operation against the militants.
An official confirmation, however, is awaited.
