The Special NIA Court in Guwahati has sentenced two arrested militants of the outlawed Sangbijit faction of the NDFB — the NDFB(S) — to death for their role in the massacre of over 70 people in the two districts of Kokrajhar and Sonitpur on the evening of Dec 23, 2014. Two other arrested rebel leaders have been handed with life terms by the court.
While Ajoy Basumutary and Bishnu Narzary were handed capital punishment Nitul Daimary and Sanju Bordoloi were given life sentence for their role in the shocking massacre that shook the entire nation four years ago.
Heavily-armed NDFB(S) militants had launched multiple attacks killing over 70 people, including women and children, in one of the bloodiest massacres in the history of the Bodo conflict.
The four accused were convicted earlier on Aug 30 this year in one of the cases of the mass killings that took place at Santipur village in Sonitpur district.
