Two ferries with 100 people stuck in middle of Brahmaputra in Majuli

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: Two ferries transporting passengers had to stop in the middle of the Brahmaputra River in Majuli on Wednesday afternoon due to heavy fog and poor visibility. One ferry was going to Majuli from Jorhat and the other one was moving towards Jorhat from Majuli.

“Due to heavy fog, both are stopped in the Brahmaputra River. Since yesterday water level is increasing in the Brahmaputra and that resulted in heavy fog, which has hampered navigation due to poor visibility. So, the ferries are waiting for the situation to come back to normal.

The authorities are contacting the drivers and officials present in the ferry, and there is no reason to panic as they will move immediately after the fog decreases,” said an Inland Water Transport department official.
