GUWAHATI: The Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) has merged with the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance or TIPRA headed by Tripura’s royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Barman.

The merger was announced by INPT chief BK Hrangkhawl and Pradyot Deb Barman in a joint press conference at the Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala on Thursday.

Addressing mediapersons, Pradyot Deb Barman made it clear that both the parties were in talks for the past few months. He said that he is happy that the INPT, in their wisdom, decided on behalf of the entire community to strengthen the party.

Terming it as historic decision, Pradyot said that for the interest of state and for TIPRASA people the oldest political party has decided to come together. He further mentioned that he has conveyed a message to the Union Home Ministry to discuss about the subject of a separate TIPRALAND.

It may be mentioned that the TIPRA and the INPT had fought the recently concluded Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections as allies, where TIPRA won 17 seats and INPT bagged one seat.
