Trinamool delegation visits Dhola, meets kin of victims

A four-member Trinamool Congress delegation Sunday arrived in Assam and met the kin of the five persons who were gunned down by unidentified assailants at Kharbari Bisonimukh village near Dhola in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Thursday night. The TMC delegation was led by Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien and comprised Mamata Bala Thakur, Nadimul Haq and MLA Mahua Moitra.

After reaching Mohanbari airport near Dibrugarh, the delegation travelled to Dhola where they met with family members of the five persons killed on Thursday night.

“We met the kin of the five people killed by gunmen. We condemn the incident in strongest-possible terms and offered our condolences to the bereaved family members,” Mohua Moitra said after meeting the victim families.

The party also announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each for the kin of the victims.

However, the visit by the Trinamool delegation is being seen with some sceptism as various groups and organizations warned the TMC not to politicize the issue for narrow political gains.

Meanwhile, some local groups and organizations expressed their disappointment over the visiting delegation not interacting with them and accused them of trying to reap political benefits.

Five persons — Shymal Biswas, Ananta Biswas, Abhinash Biswas (all belonging to a single family), Subal Das and Dhananjay Namsudra — were killed in indiscriminate firing by unidentified gunmen at Kharbari Bisonimukh village on Thursday night.

Police made the first breakthrough in the case and arrested one person named Jintu Gogoi @ Dikla from Bosagaon in Sadiya yesterday (Nov 3).
