GUWAHATI, Jan 27: A woman had a close shave after she was attacked by a leopard at her home in the heart of Tinsukia town.
The woman, identified as Dipti Das, is a resident of Rongagora Path in Tinsukia and was attacked after she came out of her home today morning hearing the dogs bark.
“I wake up early in the morning. Today was no different. I suddenly heard the dogs barking and so came down to inquire. I saw something that looked like another dog. But then it jumped at me and bit me on my hands. I tried to pull it away but the animal, which did not appear full grown but was a little bigger than a dog, attempted to grab my neck leaving nail injuries,” the injured woman said.
“We have seen foot marks and it appears to be a mid-sized leopard. There are several tea gardens nearby and leopards have reportedly ventured out of the woods in search of food,” a forest officer told News Live.
While the injured woman was rushed to a local medical facility where she was given first-aid treatment and then sent home since the injuries were not serious, forest officials said they are exploring the possibility of setting up a trap so that the big cat can be caged.
