Trading scam accused Bishal Phukan, Tapan Borah alas Tarkik get bail: Bishal Phukan and Tapan Borah alias Tarkik could be out under the open sky with Gauhati High Court granting bail to the duo in a case registered at Barbaruah Police Station (case no. 85/2024) in Dibrugarh district, the last case in which they were held behind bars since their arrest in September last year.

Separate bail applications were moved by lawyers of Tapan Borah alias Tarkik and Bishal Phukan in Gauhati High Court today (May 1) following which bail was granted to them by Justice Parthivjyoti Saikia.

The duo is likely to be released from prison once the bail formalities are completed since they have already been granted bail in the other cases under which they were arrested.

Tapan’s wife Sumi Borah, one of the main accused in the multi-crore trading scam, will, however, stay in prison as she is yet to receive bail in all cases.

Bishal Phukan (22) was arrested by Dibrugarh Police on September 2 last year after he failed to pay investors returns he had promised after collecting around Rs 2,200 crore in the name of investing them in the share market.

Actor-influencer Sumi Borah, Bishal’s self-proclaimed sister, and her husband Tapan Borah alias Tarkik, were arrested on September 12, ten days after they went into hiding and played a cat-and-mouse game with police prompting theories that they could have fled to Nepal through Bihar.

Tarkik’s brother Amlan Borah was also arrested for his association with the other arrested accused.

He is now out of prison on bail.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the high-profile case of fraud along with 40 other trading cases, had filed a chargesheet against the arrested accused, including Bishal Phukan, Sumi aborah and Tarkik, among others, in November.
