Total lockdown in many parts of Guwahati from Tuesday

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government is likely to announce total lockdown in several localities of Guwahati from 6 pm on Tuesday (June 23) in view of rising COVID-19 positive cases, particularly with no travel history. The lockdown will remain in place for 14 days.

Government will announce the details of localities where lockdown will be clamped shortly. Various localities in Jalukbari, Maligaon, Pandu, Machkhowa, Fancy Bazaar, Dhirenpara and Fathasil Ambari will be placed under total lockdown from 6 pm on Tuesday.

Earlier, at a press meet in Guwahati Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that health department had recommended the administration to impose ward-wise lockdown in Guwahati.

Nine wards have been recognised as COVID-19 hotspots in the city.
