GUWAHATI: The offices of the Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner, the Commissioner of Police, and the bungalows in Guwahati will be shifted to newer locations within the city. The DC office, Revenue Office, Registrar office will be relocated to Rupnagar and the Commissioner of Police office will be constructed in Khanapara.
At present, all these offices are located in Panbazar at the Brahmaputra river bank. As the riverfront project progresses the lands will be used for the project. This was stated by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma who reviewed the locations on Wednesday.
“We will be relocating the DC, CP offices, and bungalows as the waterfront needs to be opened up for the public. The Commissioner of Police will be brought to Khanapara and the work will start in another two to three months. It will be an iconic building” Dr. Sarma told reporters.
Accompanied by senior officials, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday reviewed the allocated land for the offices in Rupnagar and Khanapara.
“Right now the office of the Kamrup DC is in a congested location. We will expand it and make it spacious. In fact, in Assam, we will expand 10 DC offices,” informed Dr. Sarma.

Here we have almost 10 bighas of land and as the offices are scattered we will bring them at one place. Also, the election counting is done here and so we will have some ancillary facilities as well. I have asked them to increase the parking area to accommodate 200 cars. On an average we will spend around Rs. 45 crore for each DC office. Here it will be a bit more. According to the Master Plan the Guwahati Waterfront has be readied within five years but in our tenure it will be completed in three years,” said Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
