GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption raided Guwahati and Diphu residences of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Abhijit Rabha who is currently posted in Karbi Anglong.
The anti-corruption sleuths raided Abhijit Rabha’s office and official residence at Diphu along with his private residence in Rajgarh area of Guwahati on Friday.
The team recovered cash worth Rs. 6 lakh, 60 walkie talkies, 4 laptops and a number of insurance and bank documents.
The team of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption conducted the raid regarding the suspected deposit of money to the account of Indian Forest Service officer from 2011 to 2017 while he was the Additional PCCF.
According to sources, During this period, an amount of over Rs 4.12 crores were deposited in Rabha’s bank account with individual deposits ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 91 lakh.
On being asked about the source of the deposits, Rabha said that he had earned an amount of Rs 45 lakhs by selling of broccoli- which he said he had been cultivating in over 16 bighas of land in Pajibindha village in Kamrup district.
Rabha, however, failed to explain the source of the other high-value cash deposits.
“A case vide ACB PS case no. 01/2020 under section 13(1)(b)/13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered against IFS officer Abhijit Rabha regarding disproportionate assets. We have conducted the raids at his office and residence after getting the search warrant from special judge. We have also recovered some documents,” said an officer of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corrution.
